The collection used here
DonorAPI.com presents the Charity Navigator Scores Expenses Dataset, version 1, attributed in its metadata to katyjqian and published through Kaggle. The supplied file contains 8,408 rows and 23 columns. Its descriptive metadata refers to approximately 8,400 charities; this website uses the actual row count.
The metadata gives a publication and modification date of May 4, 2019. It describes collection by web scraping in May 2019, using rating details mostly from 2017. Exact rating dates and fiscal years are not supplied for individual rows. Historical descriptions, leadership, finances, and scores are retained as source observations, not independently refreshed records.

What is included
The source contains charity names, EINs, mission descriptions, taglines, category and subcategory labels, state codes, three scores, revenue and expense fields, a size classification, and recorded leadership information. Each row has its own complete profile. No original CSV file is served by this website; the data is rendered into HTML pages and browse indexes.
What is not supplied
There are no official website URLs, donation destinations, mailing addresses, city fields, current tax-deductibility indicators, legal-structure columns, program-outcome measures, or private donor records. The directory does not invent those values, create donation links from guesses, or imply an active integration with an external service.
Presentation and calculations
Source fields are preserved on each profile, with readable formatting provided separately. Currency values are displayed in US dollars; stored expense fractions are multiplied by 100 for percentage display. Missing compensation is not converted into zero. A literal N/A tagline remains visible as a source string in the complete-field view.
Size labels are mapped from small, mid, and big to Small, Mid-sized, and Large. Their definitions follow the metadata’s total-expense thresholds. Score bands are site navigation choices: 90–100, 80–under 90, 70–under 80, and below 70. No new scores or modern star ratings are calculated.
Counts, means, medians, and totals are calculated from the supplied rows, without external weighting. They describe this collection, not every nonprofit or a complete national or state charitable economy. Cause-within-location pages include only combinations represented in the records.
Expense component amounts match total expenses multiplied by the relevant source ratios across the file. This is a file-level observation, not independent confirmation of audited amounts. Small differences between component sums and totals are retained rather than redistributed.
