The mission

What this organization describes

Lasting health change in Africa
Amref Health Africa's mission is to improve the health of people in Africa by partnering with and empowering communities, and strengthening health systems. We work at the grassroots level to tackle Africa's most critical health challenges: maternal health, child health, HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, the lack of access to water and sanitation, and the lack of access to quality diagnostic, and surgical services. The cornerstone of our work is training local health workers, from community volunteers to midwives and doctors. We work primarily through women and girls, championing them to build the knowledge, skills and means to transform their own health and the community's health.
