The mission

What this organization describes

A Christian Home for Children Growing Children for Life
Boys and Girls Country was established in 1971. Our mission is to change the lives of children from families in crisis by loving and nurturing them in a Christian environment, raising them to become self-sustaining and contributing adults. Our children are primarily from the greater Houston area and are almost exclusively placed voluntarily by parents or guardians temporarily or longer-term while they address crises or other issues. Boys and Girls Country has the capacity to serve 48 boys and 40 girls, ages 5-18, a total of 88 children at any one time. Our College and Career Campus is home to our high school graduates while they pursue a degree, vocational/technical certification, join the military, or work a first job. We have been home for 1,435 children since our founding.
