The mission

What this organization describes

Securing a diversified fishing future for the communities of Eastern Maine and beyond
Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries is a non-profit organization that works to secure a diversified fishing future for the communities of Eastern Maine and beyond. We do this by developing and implementing innovative programs that provide value for today's fishermen and drive more sustainable management approaches for future fisheries. An essential component of our work is connecting the knowledge of fishermen, the findings of scientists, and the world of policy makers. While we work throughout Maine and regionally, nationally, and internationally as needed, our focus is on the area from Penobscot Bay, east to the Canadian border. The area is distinct ecologically and socio-economically. It comprises about one third of the Gulf of Maine, has ~3000 commercial fishermen, and includes the two most fisheries dependent counties on the East Coast.
