Small Steps Nurturing Center

The mission of Small Steps Nurturing Center is to provide an exemplary early childhood program to instill and foster the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth of economically at-risk children and their families. Small Steps believes the way to prepare disadvantaged children for success in elementary school and life is through participation in a comprehensive, high-quality early childhood education program. Small Steps lays the groundwork for student success by offering a high-quality education, social and emotional support, a nurturing Christian environment, transportation, and nutritious meals to children ages two through six living in poverty. Through operating two preschools in the First and Fifth Wards of Houston, we use proven interventions to help narrow the knowledge gap and create a community of support for our students and families. The fact that Small Steps students graduate from kindergarten on par with their peers means our approach is working.
