The mission

What this organization describes

Economic thinking for environmental policy
Founded in 1952, RFF is an independent, nonprofit research institution that improves environmental, energy, and natural resource decisions through impartial economic research and policy engagement. We are committed to being the most widely trusted source of research insights and policy solutions leading to a healthy environment and a thriving economy. Our experts examine a wide variety of topics from climate change, energy, electricity, and transportation to forest management, water resources, and natural disaster risk mitigation. Thanks in large part to RFF's efforts, economists agree that we can put value on things that aren't directly valued in the marketplace, like clean air and water. We recognize that research alone is not enough to create smarter policy, so we engage with policymakers and leaders at the local, state, national, and international levels through targeted events and communications-testing ideas in real-world contexts to create cost-effective and durable solutions.
